MEET THE TRAINER.

 

Hi there, my name is Kerry Winfrey! I am the head trainer here at Onyx Athletics! I am a recent graduate of Davidson College as a Presidential Scholar with a B.S. in Economics. While studying at Davidson, I was a member of their Division 1 Track and Field program. My main events were short sprints (100m, 200m, & 400m) and the occasional self-imposed practice in the long jump pit. I have had a passion for sports ever since I laced up the skates at three years old as a hockey player (my first love). I have participated in organized football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, and track throughout my life. Each sport has brought its own unique perspectives and experiences that I can apply to my everyday life and the sports I play today. The experience, knowledge, and expertise I have gained from my time at Davidson, coupled with my experience as an athlete, are irreplaceable and the main driving forces of my success as a personal trainer and business entrepreneur. I am always eager to learn more about the fitness sphere and relay this knowledge to my clients to support their best interests! I’ve completed the National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer course, and continue to look for opportunities to further advance my skills in this field. As a fitness enthusiast, I look to share the knowledge I have gained throughout my own athletic career and training. I want to inspire athletes to take that next jump in their careers! I am eager to continue learning more about fitness and relay this knowledge to my clients to support their best interests!

PRIVATE SESSIONS

In our private group/solo sessions and TrueCoach programming, we integrate all of the same methodologies and philosophies from our staple OP Method into the program design, however this program is directly catered towards your personal goals or a collective group's goals. We guarantee intelligent, effective, and safe training regimens for any athlete through an integrated, planned, systematic, and variable training progression. We not only help you build confidence in the gym but confidence within yourself.

To get started, we ask that you fill out the form, here, with a detailed description of what type of programming you are looking for. Then we will reach out with a follow-up email to discuss pricing and other relevant logistics.

DROP-IN CLASSES

It’s not just about how you look; it’s about how you feel and perform.

Not everyone’s training regimen is the same nor should it be the same. Whatever your motivation is, structure your workouts to satisfy your wants and needs through various classes offering differing modes of training to meet your process goals and outcome goals. For some that may be learning the foundations of weightlifting, for others it may be running faster or jumping high, for many it may be for aesthetic. During instructor-led classes you will learn about the significances of regular exercise towards your overall health, learn new skills and improve on old ones, manifest confidence, and self-efficacy in yourself, and ultimately build strength. All of this, while being supported and motivated to become the best version of yourself by a tribe of like-minded athletes and certified fitness trainers – our energy is contagious, and the camaraderie is unavoidable. Our classes are offered throughout the week to allow flexibility & convenience in one’s scheduling. The question is: when stricken with time (24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week), how high will you rank your health on your priority list?

CURRENT CLASSES OFFERED

LIMITED SUMMERTIME OFFER! NWR + GSE Boot Camp: Strength + Conditioning

 

Days & Location: Tuesdays (NWR Only) & Wednesdays (GSE Only) @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 10:00am-11:00am

Description: Open to ALL Granite State Elite Softball Athletes & No Wasted Reps Basketball Athletes. Meet & work with ESA Head Fitness Trainer Kerry Winfrey, who will instruct you through low, medium, and high-intensity workouts that are specifically designed to target the entire body utilizing a variety of traditional and functional strength training tools.

 

Hybrid Classes:

 

Days & Locations: Monday-Saturday @ Athletic Instinct & Elite Sports Academy

Times: 11:30am-12:30pm (T, TH), 4:15pm-5:15pm (F), 5:30pm-6:30pm (F), 7:45pm-8:45pm (T, TH, SAT), 8:45pm-9:45pm (M, W)

Description: Crush some major calories through our Hyrbrid Class as you work to accomplish any and all health-related goals. Through this class you will increase cardiovascular endurance, increase fat burning potential, burn calories and improve metabolism, improve use of oxygen, enhance muscular balance, improve functional fitness, and develop strength, speed and power. Whatever your goals are, our coaches are dedicated to keeping you motivated and confident in achieving them.

    By implementing principles from our signature OP Method, we create flexibility and ingenuity in the Hybrid Class programming while setting a clear path to crushing your health goals. Varying training modes dominate each block during classes (i.e. one block will be strictly HIIT while another may be just traditional strength training) providing a unique combination of proven strategies that have worked for world-class athletes and been proven to work through evidence-based research. The training modes that will be utilized vary from traditional strength training, to HIIT & circuit training, to performance-based training, and so on.

 

Coaches + Parents Club:

 

Days & Location: Monday-Friday @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 8:00am-9:00am

Description: As parents and coaches, we take great pride in our family and team responsibilities, respectively. However, isn’t a break and time to focus on yourself nice every once in a while?

    This parent and coach fitness class is for men and women of all ages who happen to be caregivers and teachers ready to take control of their fitness and health. Enjoy a fun and high energy atmosphere, while getting a solid pump in before or after work! Parents, get the chance to heckle your kid’s coaches for pushing your kids too hard or easy. Coaches, get the opportunity to ask parents why their kid only operates on a Pop Tart diet. Classes are easily modified and follow the Hybrid Class structure. We offer childcare options for a small fee ($25). As long as you are a OA Punch Card holder or an Onyx Pro member, all you will need for this class is a water bottle, a good attitude, and a willingness to work.


Fundamental Movements & Weightlifting Foundations Class:

 

Days & Location: Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 4:00pm-5:00pm

Description: Many people are intimidated by the weight room, even though we all know strength training is vital to our all around health. The Fundamental Movements & Weightlifting Foundations Class is perfect if you are new to exercise or have not exercised in a long time. Through this class, we’ll build a solid foundation in the fundamental movement patterns (squat, hinge, pull, push, press, core), build a base level of conditioning, and improve mobility and stability of the entire kinetic chain.

 

Speed + Jump University:

Days & Location: Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 5:15pm-6:15pm

Description: Are you someone who is looking to jump higher and run faster? Well this class is perfect for you! Learn proper sprinting mechanics to work towards your optimal stride rate and stride length. Develop proper mechanics for the eccentric, transition, and concentric phases of jumping. Through this programming you will improve deceleration and acceleration capabilities, rate of force production, dynamic flexibility, postural control, core strength, and proprioception.

 

Sports Performance Class:

 

Days & Location: Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 5:15pm-6:15pm

Description: The Sports Performance Class is a performance-based class that focuses on building a well constructed, symmetrical, powerful and functional body. This class is for athletes who are looking to take their athleticism, conditioning, strength, and performance to the next level. Every class will have a block dedicated to skill development and functional training for a specific sport. The main sport of focus for each class will be announced ahead of time on our social media.

 

Bodybuilder + Aesthetic Class:

 

Day & Location: Fridays @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 3:00pm-4:00pm

Description: Are you someone who is looking to improve overall physique and aesthetics? This class is a full body weightlifting and muscle building program to develop strength, size, and sculpt your body to your likings. Attention is given to lagging body parts while developing a foundational routine to begin putting on size.

 

Recovery & Mobility Class:

 

Day & Location: Saturdays @ Elite Sports Academy

Time: 12:30pm-1:30pm

Description: For many dedicated athletes, we eat, sleep, train, repeat—constantly striving to get bigger, stronger, faster, or slimmer—but at what point does it become too much? It’s common for those who exercise to experience one or more of the following after a tough workout session:

  • Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

  • Muscle damage (small microscopic tears)

  • Inflammation

  • A feeling of physical fatigue

 

    However, while these experiences are shared by many, how to deal with these symptoms is often not understood, overlooked, or inadequately dealt with. In order to maintain a sustainable training regimen and keep seeing progress in your work, you must allow your body to recover fully, week after week. Our Recovery Classes allow just that. Through these classes, work on restoring and repairing muscles to avoid injury or overuse after a long week of training. Engage those sore muscles and allow your body and mind to slow down. These classes are designed to bring about a nice balance between rest and high-intensity workout sessions. Mobilize and recover through mobility & flexibility training, low-impact training, arm care, knee care, and other activities that are low-intensity, such as walking, swimming, cycling, jogging, yoga, or active stretching.

Onyx Pro Class:

Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays @ Athletic Instinct & Elite Sports Academy

Time: 12:00pm-1:30pm (M, W), 12:00pm-1:30pm (F)

Description: The Onyx Pro Class is ONLY open to Onyx Pro Members. This class is designed to be an open gym format where trainers and athletes come together to bounce ideas off of each other and work together in cohesion. You will have access to trainers to program for you at a discounted rate and group training to keep you motivated. If you’re someone who is just looking to put their headphones in and get a pump in to prepare for your next competition, this class is for you too! In the open gym setting, you have the option of working by yourself, with a trainer, with a group, or with a partner.

We want to see our athletes succeed in all areas of life. We wish to empower our athletes. Through weight room training and assessments, live webinars and workshops encompassing the 4 Pillars of an Onyx Athlete (Athletic Development, Mind Development, Emotional Development, Lifestyle Development), and much more, we are able to prepare our athletes for the next chapter of their athletic careers.
